Riparian fungal communities respond to land-use mediated changes in soil properties and vegetation structure

چکیده
Abstract Purpose Owing to their topographic location and nutrient rich soils, riparian forests are often converted pastures for grazing. In recent decades, remnant cleared grazing have been restored with native species. The impacts of such land-use changes on soil fungal communities unclear, despite the central roles that fungi play in key ecosystem processes. We investigated how taxonomic functional composition affected by change at different depths, if variation is related edaphic properties extant vegetation. Methods study was conducted six waterways south-eastern Australia, each comprising three types: forest, forest pasture, plants. surveyed strata vegetation sampled top-soil sub-soil characterise physicochemical communities. ITS1 region sequences were used assign composition. Results Fungal infrequently varied or depth. Overall, environmental (soil vegetation) explained 35–36% both Soil fertility (N, P, K, pH Ca) ground cover characteristics, whereas clay content, sub-canopy tree basal area. Conclusion Across studied waterways, more strongly associated mediated site-scale structure than broad-scale classes type.

Unravelling Soil Fungal Communities from Different Mediterranean Land-Use Backgrounds
BACKGROUND Fungi strongly influence ecosystem structure and functioning, playing a key role in many ecological services as decomposers, plant mutualists and pathogens. The Mediterranean area is a biodiversity hotspot that is increasingly threatened by intense land use. Therefore, to achieve a balance between conservation and human development, a better understanding of the impact of land use on...
متن کاملAnthropogenic land use shapes the composition and phylogenetic structure of soil arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities.
Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi play an important role in ecosystems, but little is known about how soil AM fungal community composition varies in relation to habitat type and land-use intensity. We molecularly characterized AM fungal communities in soil samples (n = 88) from structurally open (permanent grassland, intensive and sustainable agriculture) and forested habitats (primeval forest ...
متن کاملThe influence of soil properties on the structure of bacterial and fungal communities across land-use types
Land-use change can have significant impacts on soil conditions and microbial communities are likely to respond to these changes. However, such responses are poorly characterized as few studies have examined how specific changes in edaphic characteristics do, or do not, influence the composition of soil bacterial and fungal communities across land-use types. Soil samples were collected from fou...
